Chasing Me
04:42
|
|||
I gotta get out, I gotta find a way to break this stained glass ceiling
Gotta go now, break out of this 4 wall, iron ball, 9 to 5’er
Get gone, like a melody you can’t recall
Its been too long since the highway air has graced my lungs
And there’s probably a moral somewhere in this,
The grass always grows greener, whoa oh
but even Aesop never felt the way I do today.
I’m gonna run as far as I can go, follow white lines and yellow brick
I’m gonna climb up high and pretend that I have wings.
And even if I find myself between the devil and the deep blue sea,
At least I will have gone down chasing me
I gotta get out, before the water seeping in covers my head
I need to step out and hope to God that I can swim
It’s been too long chasing someone else's dream
So I’m cranking “Lucky Denver Mint”,
putting my foot on the gas, and hair in the wind
And there’s probably a moral somewhere in this,
The grass always grows greener, whoa oh
but even Aesop never felt the way I do today.
I’m gonna run as far as I can go, follow white lines and yellow brick
I’m gonna climb up high and pretend that I have wings.
And even if I find myself between the devil and the deep blue sea,
At least I will have gone down chasing me
I’m gonna run as far as I can go, follow white lines and yellow brick
I’m gonna climb up high and pretend that I have wings.
And even if I find myself between the devil and the deep blue sea,
At least I will have gone down chasing me

Shot of Whiskey

Well all your girlfriends say that you could do better than me,
And I ain’t quite the white knight your mama hoped I’d be.
But I got a little rough on my edges, you got a little fire in your blood
And we’ll burn the place down when we get tangled up
So I ain’t worried about what they think about you and me
We burn like a Tennessee wildfire chased with a shot of Jim Beam
Gonna be a wild-eyed hell of a ride,
So take a deep breath and hold on tight.
Let the haters hate and your daddy disagree,
Cause I’d rather be your shot of whiskey,
Than everybody’s cup of tea.
I’m a loud mouthed, heard headed, hell raising son of a gun.
But I’m the arms you’re gonna fall in when the day is done.
I’ll be the Jack in your Coke if you be the pure in my country.
Match made in heaven and a hell of a party
So I ain’t worried about what they think about you and me
We burn like a Tennessee wildfire chased with a shot of Jim Beam
Gonna be a wild-eyed hell of a ride,
So take a deep breath and hold on tight.
Let the haters hate and your daddy disagree,
Cause I’d rather be your shot of whiskey,
Than everybody’s cup of tea.
Well I look in your eyes, you look in mine
I’m pulling this truck off to the side,
You give me that come and get me smile,
well come on over, get your lips on mine.
And we fog up these windows, alone out here on these back roads
Cut off the lights let the wheels spin
Pedal to the metal we’re gone again
So I ain’t worried about what they think about you and me
We burn like a Tennessee wildfire chased with a shot of Jim Beam
Gonna be a wild-eyed hell of a ride,
So take a deep breath and hold on tight.
Let the haters hate and your daddy disagree,
Cause I’d rather be your shot of whiskey,
Than everybody’s cup of tea.

So I saw you look my way, in the chaos from the other day
And I don’t think that you liked who was looking back
it’s just a hard lesson from a looking glass
You’d held your pride, but not her hand
Fought to win, but not to understand
so with her trust left shattered in the aftermath,
Its just a hard lesson from a looking glass
Such a hard lesson from a looking glass
You made a promise that your heart was true,
and you meant it when you said “I do”
but the glowing image whispers heart attacks
and it’s a hard lesson from a looking glass
another hard lesson from a looking glass
And it’s what you always do
The thing that you ran from, is now what you’re running to
you’re so inside out and upside down,
that you wonder if you’ll ever get you back
So here you are once again, the very model of a broken man
You better figure this out, boy while there’s still a chance
to heed the hard lesson from a looking glass
it’s just a hard lesson from a looking glass
you need a hard lesson from a looking glass
just a hard lesson from a looking glass

Great Lakes Summer Night
03:55
|
|||
Head on out the front door, with that moon shining bright
Hop in the jeep with the top off,
Not a cloud in the sky to hide a single star tonight
We’re picking up buddies on the westside,
Then we’re headed on out to the bonfire
And we ride, leaving all our cares inside
‘Cause we know that winter’s coming soon enough
So break out the bottle and fill your cup
It’s fine to party all night long,
Its time to grab the one you love
And slide on over in a beach chair,
Pop the top on a cold beer and unwind
On this Great Lake summer night.
It’s happens on sand bars and boat docks,
In hoodies, shorts, and flip flops by the beachside
it’s backyard fires with the radio on,
Igloo coolers and Oberon in the firelight
In big cities or in small towns,
Yeah we crank it up when the sun goes down
And we ride, leaving all our cares inside
‘Cause we know that winter’s coming soon enough
So break out the bottle and fill your cup
It’s fine to party all night long,
Its time to grab the one you love
And slide on over in a beach chair,
Pop the top on a cold beer and unwind
On this Great Lake summer night.
There aint nowhere in this whole wide world that I’d rather be,
Than sitting right next to you…
As we ride, leaving all our cares inside
‘Cause we know that winter’s coming soon enough
So break out the bottle and fill your cup
It’s fine to party all night long,
Its time to grab the one you love
And slide on over in a beach chair,
Pop the top on a cold beer and unwind
On this Great Lake summer night.

Gettin' Our Church On
04:31
|
|||
Blue collar generation, proud as hell of the towns we were raised in
Where we learned how to love and learned how to fight.
We got tailgates and 6 strings,
We like cold beer and Springsteen
And we smoke a little smoke on Friday night.
We’re working class heroes, watching that clock tick down to zero
And we get together when that whistle blows
And we go creepin’, down county streets and old dirt roads.
Cranking it up with the windows down,
Give ‘em a taste of that backwoods rock and roll
Nashville to Vegas, New York to Talledega,
Yeah we roll up, sunglasses on.
Just gettin’ our Church on.
We like ridin’ around in them T-tops, checking out the girls rockin’ them cutoffs
easy on the eyes, but hell on the heart
Hanging out, sipping on a cold one, new tattoo in the summer sun
Raise ‘em up, let that lighter spark
Then it’s Saturday night out on the town,
Sunday morning coming down,
Then it’s hop back in, and let the wheels spin ‘round
And we go creepin’, down county streets and old dirt roads.
Cranking it up with the windows down,
Give ‘em a taste of that backwoods rock and roll
Nashville to Vegas, New York to Talledega,
Yeah we roll up, sunglasses on.
Just gettin’ our Church on.
And we go creeping, down county streets and old dirt roads.
Cranking it up with the windows down,
Give ‘em a taste of that backwoods rock and roll
Nashville to Vegas, New York to Talledega,
Yeah we roll up, sunglasses on.
Just gettin’ our Church on.

I’m a liar. Even when I tell the truth it’s only partial
You’ll never get everything.
I’m a hider. Even in plain sight, when you think you see all of me,
It’s never all of me.
I’ve been hurt too many times to call it bad luck.
Yeah, I’m punch drunk.
Love is terror. Even on it’s best day it’s still a nuisance.
Harsh and intrusive
‘Cause I’ve hidden things of the darkest kind
In the darkest corners of my mind
That I’m terrified you’ll find in the light
But you tell me its ok, and I doubt it,
But I hope to God you’re right.
‘Cause I’m living with a strange hallelujah,
And I’m fighting with the shadows in my head.
I’m searching for answers, but finding only questions instead.
I don’t know what you’re after, but I know all I have to give…are pieces
God, I’m a cynic. If it looks good, must be too good to be true.
Like when I look at you.
But there’s something in your way that helps to keep my fear at bay
And calms my senses
And I’m defenseless
I’ve heard that there’s a bright new world outside,
And I hope someday I find it.
‘Cause I’m living with a strange hallelujah,
And I’m fighting with the shadows in my head.
I’m searching for answers, but finding only questions instead.
I don’t know what you’re after, but I know all I have to give…are pieces
And I don’t want to waste another moment
Staring down the barrel of an imaginary gun.
so if you tell me I can trust you,
Then I’ll do my best not to turn around and run.
‘Cause I’m living with a strange hallelujah,
Still fighting back the shadows in my head.
I don’t have all the answers, and I guess I have to be ok with that.
So if you still want whats left of me. I’m handing over all I have to give…pieces.

She's Like Fire
03:53
|
|||
She’s the kind of girl you only meet once in a lifetime
A pedal to the floorboard, smoking out wheels kind of wild ride
She’ll light you up, burn you down, leave you begging for one more round
Then leave you in a cloud of smoke
She’s like fire, burning reckless.
A white hot flame in a black dress
Just watch her glow from a distance
Sparking like a rocket with a fuse lit
Unpredictable as wild desire
She’s like Fire
She’s a mortar round filling your sky with colors
She’s the ringing in your ear, she’s the explosion
She’s a roman candle, a sparkling flame
She’s bright burning, beautiful pain
Deadly when you get too close
She’s like fire, burning reckless.
A white hot flame in a black dress
Just watch her glow from a distance
Sparking like a rocket with a fuse lit
Unpredictable as wild desire
She’s like Fire

El Paso Skyline
03:48
|
|||
Got a call from my buddy back home last friday night
Been awhile since we’d caught up, guess the time was finally right.
We talked about our jobs, and out kids, and our wives,
And our crazy busy lives.
I said, how’s my baby sister. Haven’t seen her in awhile.
Have you met that boy she’s dating? I hear he’s a little wild.
He said, naw he’s fine,
But if he steps out of line, man, you know who to call.
And brother I miss you, let’s talk again soon.
Got me thinking about that El Paso skyline,
And that sea of lights burning brighter than the stars tonight
There’s a long road behind me, 1000 miles of memories
But I left my hometown roots, so I could learn to find my wings
I remember the night we climbed that water tower
And ended up running form the cops.
In that rusted up, brown Chevy truck
with the bumper busted off
Yeah we were bulletproof and we never knew
How much we pushed our luck,
Or where we’d all end up
And it gets me thinking about that El Paso skyline,
And that sea of lights burning brighter than the stars tonight
There’s a long road behind me, 1000 miles of memories
But I left my hometown roots, so I could learn to find my wings
Some days I miss my friends and my family
And that house on Daugherty rd.
I miss Friday nights, football lights, and my high school blue and gold
And that star on the mountain seems to call me back home.
And it gets me thinking about that El Paso skyline,
And that sea of lights burning brighter than the stars tonight
There’s a long road behind me, 1000 miles of memories
But I left my hometown roots, so I could learn to find my wings

Southern Heart
04:14
|
|||
Well she took off just 2 weeks into that summer
White sand and 100 in the shade
She left that Carolina coastline for a bonfire and some cherry wine
Sitting right beside that Michigan riverbank
She’d heard those northern boys’d tear your heart out
She knew the winters there could be cruel
But she’d still trade all of her pretty, for a week in Traverse City
Leave that southern boy crying like a fool.
Because you know the grass ain’t always greener
On the other side of that fresh water lake
But those Northern winds keep calling
And her Southern Heart is just dying for a break
Well he spent his summers out on great lake waters
tourist fishing’s how the bills get paid
But he’s trading charter boats and salmon
for a 6 pack and a hammock
and he’s headed to that Michigan river bank
Packed his truck and he made it there by sunset
with a million colors burning up the sky
and he swore he’d never seen anything so pretty
’til those long tan legs and southern smile caught his eye.
Because you know the grass ain’t always greener
On the other side of that fresh water lake
But those Northern winds keep calling
And her Southern Heart is just dying for a break
And he said, now tell me darlin’
You aint from around here are you
she laughed an they got to talking
And they talked about beaches and bars,
about life and God and broken hearts
til that week had slipped right from them
Back at home, she thought about her week there,
and never could get settled back to things.
So one day she called that northern boy up
hopped a plane to jump in his truck
and head back out to that Michigan river bank
Because you know the grass ain’t always greener
On the other side of that fresh water lake
But those Northern winds keep calling
And her Southern Heart is just dying for a break

Time Well Wasted
03:54
|
|||
Well she broke my heart, and she tore up my whole world.
Gave me back my ring and left me for another girl.
I thought it was forever, man I thought it was love.
Till she left me in a cloud of dust.
Well I tried to call my mama but she wasn’t at home,
Tried my buddies but nobody picked up the phone.
So I head on out to the honky-tonk side of town.
Where the Good-Time-Charlies get drunk and loud
And you can sing right along with the heartbreak crowd
I’m alright, baby I’ll admit you hurt me just a little
Broke me down, shook me up,
And it might take a little time, tequila, and a little lime
But thats just fine.
You aint gonna see me crying lie a baby,
I’ll shoot down your memory with a bottle and someone new
Only one way to face this.
Time well wasted.
I’ve heard that love is a burning thing,
And I fell right onto that fiery ring,
But she stomped my flame out with an itty bitty goodbye kiss
Yeah my hearts still smoking like charcoal brick
But it aint nothing that a little Patron can’t fix.

Pills
04:37
|
|||
Well I've known her since she was 16 and I was 20
There aint nothing new about her anyone could tell me
But there's a place she goes, where nobody knows
When she can't quite shake her past
She starts thinking about things that I don't understand
And I know better than to ask
'Cause some days she's lost in the doubt
And the fear and the pain
And there's no truth in her laugh
But she's got a song in her soul and a light in her eyes
That the darkness can't hold back
She holds tight to our love,
Tighter still to her faith
And I believe her when she says she'll make it
With the good Lords help
And the pills that she's been taking
She says she's lucky she found me
'cause I don't mind her crazy
She's got a smile that she only smiles
When she says she loves me
But all the love in the world can't save a girl
From the voices in her head
When they tell her she's nothing
And don't stand a chance
Against the demons that want her dead
And some days she's lost in the doubt
And the fear and the pain
And there's no truth in her laugh
But she's got a song in her soul and a light in her eyes
That the darkness can't hold back
She holds tight to our love,
Tighter still to her faith
And I believe her when she says she'll make it
With the good Lords help
And the pills that she's been taking
And it's like the clouds roll in
And I watch her colors fading
And her mood goes darker
Than the blue her toes are painted
Aint a damn thing I can do
'Cause I know I'm just a man
Except hold her tight, stand by her side,
And out my faith in the one who can.
'Cause some days she's lost in the doubt
And the fear and the pain
And there's no truth in her laugh
But she's got a song in her soul and a light in her eyes
That the darkness can't hold back
She holds tight to our love,
Tighter still to her faith
And I believe her when she says she'll make it
With the good Lords help
And the pills that she's been taking
With the good Lords help
And the pills that she's been taking
